Shining Star Symphony verse post

Basic Premise
On a faraway planet, a group of magical girls faced off against Schwarzschild, an entity of pure evil from beyond the stars. They almost won, but when Schwarzschild seemed to be cornered, it managed to escape into space. Worrying that it might be seeking out another planet to destroy, they send the magical creature Starby off to chase it, and recruit a new set of magical girls on whatever planet Schwarzschild found next. That planet... was Earth!

Upon arriving on Earth, Starby found a group of friends, young girls with courage and imagination in their hearts who could summon up the power to defeat Schwarzschild once and for all. Unfortunately, Schwarzschild attacked Starby before the ritual awakening these powers was completed, launching it out of the spacetime continuum. From there, it went into a deep sleep, under the town of Alberton, OR, in order to regain its power. While it slept, eventually Starby made it back to Earth - but twenty years had passed. The girls Starby had chosen before were now adults, with all of the complexities of life and loss of imagination that comes with adulthood. Those girls must now embrace their strange new magical powers, come together, and remember the power that comes with youth in order to defeat an evil that has been festering beneath the city for twenty years.

Setting
Alberton, OR is somewhere south of Portland. It's not quite small enough to call a town, but not quite big enough to be called a City. It's on the coast, some cool peeps live there??? It's an alternate history 2019, where we have a different (but still horrible) president and stuff.

Also there are aliens but they're mostly out in space, Earth is a pretty obscure planet. More details as necessary!

Hard Rules
  • The team members are between the ages of 32 and 35.
  • Team members need a color, and can't repeat colors.
  • Cap of 7 team members, discounting Starby.
  • No clowns

Here's a form to fill out for characters! Or just throw whatever up and let's talk about CR/plots/whatever.

Player: Echo
Character: Sitara Carter
Role: The purple one
20 Years Ago: Highly energetic sporty girl, loved her friends, slight hero complex, super talented athlete on track to a sports scholarship.
Now: Desperately trying to figure out a new purpose in life after suffering a knee injury in a car cash that ended her sports career, walks with a cane, still loves her friends, still has a hero complex, lives in a shitty apartment and works at Legally Not Best Buy but she's got a cool leather jacket and drives a motorcycle so at least there's that.
Powers: Ultra Violet, gravity powers, cane becomes a swordcane with a rapier in it.
Plot Stuff: Coming to terms with how unhealthy it is to define herself by the One Thing she's good at and put all her self worth into it, finding a good balance between her desire to help others and the need for some basic self-preservation instinct, for fuck's sake, making peace with letting go of old dreams and finding new ones.

Player: Emily
Character: Rochelle Albion
Role: The Blue One
20 Years Ago: The incredibly smart nerd friend who aced everything academic without any effort. Put a lot of her self image and self worth into being The Smart One.
Now: College flunk out, "I don't know shit my dude." Works at a deadend job as a coffee shop barista. Has no present and no future, just a tired millennial trying to survive under capitalism.
Powers: Transforms into Star Shift. Gets a cool naginata and the power of Blueshift, which turns her blue and lets her phase through things. It can also make wispy blue energy attacks sometimes.
Plot Stuff: She feels like she's the abject failure within the group, even when others are in similar situations. Hey growth is realizing that one's self worth isn't tied to how much one produces under capitalism.

Character: she has a name. it's a great name. I'll tell you what it is later. when I figure out what it is.
Role: The Green One
20 Years Ago: The Quiet One. Geeky in a "super into video games" kind of way, probably had no close friends before she met Stella.
Now: IT admin at an engineering company, which looks great on paper (good pay, benefits) but in practice she feels like she's just barely handling it. Bad case of impostor syndrome, worried she just got hired because the HM knew her mom. Has a kitten named Rocky, makes jokes about being a cat lady to deflect questions that might lead to someone picking up that she never did find a new group of friends. Becoming a... magical woman, she guesses, has been a much bigger improvement to her mental health than she's letting on, because suddenly not only does she have friends again but she's dealing with straightforward problems that have solutions she's able to both determine and execute.
Powers: Transforms into Green Flash. She fights with a spear and has electrical powers. Maybe she's especially fast?
Plot Stuff: Needs to learn to accept others' confidence in her, maybe discover that there are people already in her life who are friends waiting to happen. Her problems probably come up fairly late in the "season" compared to the others, just because when they're all together that's when she gets a reprieve from them.

oops I'm posting about a green electric magical girl from my account for a different green electric magical girl

Character: Meredith Blair
Role: The Red One
20 Years Ago: Edgy punk rival, determined to do whatever she wants and rebel against authority. Puts 150% effort into skateboard tricks and sneaking into R-rated movies. Neither the red or the black are her natural hair color.
Now: Doctor Blair turned her life around after the... incident in her youth and channeled her considerable powers of doing whatever she wants into wanting to go to med school. Unlike her genius friends, she wasn’t unused to studying and failing at new material (she’s done so many things on dares or because someone said she couldn’t, from getting an A on a test to sewing a dress to climbing up a telephone pole). Right now, she’s on track to becoming chief surgeon. Her current rival for the position is her ex husband and if he gets it she will quite possibly have to do at least one murder. She goes to philanthropy events and does yoga and frequently looks at house listings with bedrooms for children and big yards for a dog or three to run around in and closes the browser tab and goes into work at six to beat the traffic.
Powers: Crimson Comet has inertia powers inspired by that episode of magic schoolbus where Ms Frizzle took all the friction out of a baseball field and the class did a lot of really sick slides. It would be really useful for someone who had picked up a skateboard at any point in the last decade, but it’s still handy on foot. She might have a hammer?
Plot Stuff:
- Character arc dealing with the dreams she’s pretending she doesn’t have just because they’re incompatible with her current lifestyle because if she can’t do everything she wants her entire persona is a lie.
- Its gonna take some persuading to get her to sacrifice some more of her precious time. Framing it as preventative medicine should work, eventually.

Character: Gemma Sternberg
Role: Sixth Ranger
20 Years Ago: Gothic high school student who wasn't a full-fledged member of the friends group, but did occasionally hang around and was always there to help in a pinch. Seemingly aloof until you get to know her better, stylish in a counter-cultural way. Family had money.
Now: Middle school science teacher attempting to go to grad school part-time, too tired to dress up very often, still wears a lot of black and silver jewelry. Family either lost money or she was cut off. (Haven't decided yet.) Tired all the time. Most of her friends are on the internet, except for Hera.
Powers: White Dwarf, a monochrome magical girl. She has an axe and I need to figure out the rest of the power set.
Plot Stuff: I'm still working on figuring that out, but I know going from Money to Broke is gonna be part of it.
